NEPA Assessments

AGA provides a broad range of environmental assessment services to fulfill the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969.

These services include evaluation of potential impacts on natural resources including wetlands, threatened and endangered species, cultural and historic resources as well as other facets of the environment including infrastructure and the irretrievable commitment of non-renewable resources.

The NEPA environmental assessment process, and corresponding federal and state equivalent processes, have many variations depending on the lead agency and the proposed action being evaluated. Large scale efforts, such as highway construction projects or the siting of hazardous waste landfills, require an extensive review of a broad range of issues to evaluate the impacts of the proposed action. Small scale projects, such as the siting of cellular telecommunications facilities undergo a greatly reduced evaluation under the FCC's implementation of NEPA. These environmental efforts often begin with a Preliminary Environmental Assessment. At AGA, the PEA for telecommunication or other small scale projects is done as a cost effective screening of conditions associated with a proposed action using a brief site visit and extensive in house information resources and queries of on line data systems. We currently have extensive information systems in place for Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Florida, South San Francisco, CA, and the Tidewater Virginia areas. Based on the results of the PEA, as warranted, AGA can conduct a reduced scope NEPA/ FCC Environmental Assessment (EA) that details potential impacts as well as mitigating factors associated with the proposed action. AGA is also able to provide associated required documentation and presentations to complete the NEPA and related environmental regulations compliance process including conducting public and review agency presentations and preparing memoranda of agreement between consulting parties.
